Authentic Korean restaurants can be rare to find in Canada. SongCook’s Authentic Korean Restaurant is a restaurant in North York that serves traditional Korean dishes. This authentic Korean restaurant is located at 72 Steeles Ave W #6, Thornhill with complimentary parking in the lot. I went on a day that was pleasantly warm but I was craving hot (both kinds) soups and spicy rice cakes! So my boyfriend and I went for the first time. We walked in super hungry. We saw that the restaurant was packed and full, very much unlike our stomachs. If you are lucky enough to go on a busy day like we did then be prepared to get a printed ticket with a number. Ask for a menu to look at while you wait so you can be closer to food. The restaurant has a traditional Korean charm adorning cultural charms and lamps.
Yay – Our ticket number has finally been called! We decide to experience the full Korean-ness of the night and sit on the right side. It has a very traditional partition that separates us from the other diners. It’s a nice touch because you feel a certain sense of privacy.
Okay now let’s get on with the food before you get han-gry on me. As I mentioned before, the craving of the rice cakes was mad real so I will show you that first. I also know that it’s a lot of your favourite Korean dishes 😉
It was actually really delicious. The words “the taste is pretty close to the rice cakes in Korea” actually came out of my mouth. Everything was pretty tasty at this restaurant. Here are some other pictures of the food that night.
I’ve created a GIF for you convenience so you can really feel like you were there with me. This pollock stew called동태찌개 pronounced dongtae jjigae) is perfect if you like fish and it’s cold af outside. Enjoy!
Well that wraps it up! If you’re curious, you can check out the OOTD that I wore this night here. (I was apparently repping both Korea and Toronto pretty hard that night =P)
