The weather is finally getting warmer in Toronto! The cherry blossoms are blooming, the sun is shining and I’m craving ice cream. Therefore, I put on my appropriate summer outfit and marched over to the closest joint that promised to provide me with ice cream. However, it wasn’t just any ice cream that I wanted. I don’t know whether it was the sudden bipolar change of weather, but my tastebuds were picky. I wasn’t going to settle for any old ice cream. That’s when I went on the hunt for Thai rolled ice cream.
Thai rolled ice cream started becoming popular in Canada and the US around last year. However, it’s always been popular in countries like the Philippines and Thailand where you can get it right off the street. The name is pretty self explanatory; they are rolled up ice cream. The ice cream master pours a milk liquid of whatever desired flavour on a cold, metal pan. Dry ice or running a coolant underneath the pan is how it stays chilled. Then, the ice cream artists proceeds to use a paddle to spread out the liquid evenly. Once it is solid, they roll it up into one of the most Instagram worthy, ice cream desserts.
So anyways, I googled one with good ratings online and trekked off to Toast Delight. Toast Delight is a small, cozy, mom and pops store front in Langham Square. The mom, dad and daughter who served us, are so hardworking and passionate about their shop. Even though they were very busy, they provided us with excellent service and were very friendly. Toast Delight has a variety of different HK egg waffle options as well as different ice cream types. The large selection was impressive. We ordered the HK waffle pizza and of course a Strawberry Thai rolled ice cream. However, it takes patience and time to create perfection, therefore we had to wait about 15 minutes. (I just used the time wisely and took outfit pics?)
While we wait, let’s talk fashion. I mentioned before that I wanted something summery for this very important occasion. Something that will match my beautiful ice cream cup. I knew that I was going to be picking strawberry as my flavour (I know I’m basic) so I chose my new pink, faux leather jacket as the main attraction for my OOTD. I fell in love with this jacket when I saw it. First of all, it’s pink and pink will always have a special spot in my heart. Secondly, the detailing is so gorgeous. It’s a moto jacket with big, silver zippers on the pockets and sleeves. It also zips asymmetrically onto one side. I also LOVE that the collar is so big and structured.
Let’s move on to the rest of the outfit. When I am putting together an outfit, I choose an item that is the main attraction then work around that item. As you already know, the pink leather jacket was the main focal point. I wanted to style it with a simple outfit to balance out the bright and loud jacket. As a result, I wore a basic white crop top and a destroyed, denim skirt. I then coupled the outfit with my favourite wedges.
Our order is up, so let’s move on! I am a certified pizza lover so I was stoked to try an egg waffle pizza for the first time. The waffle pizza was interesting. I really liked the contrast of the sweet dough with the savoury pizza toppings. However, it’s not something I could eat too much of. (Maybe that’s a good thing as I would normally be able to down a whole medium pizza to my face?)
The Thai rolled ice cream was delicious! I love the texture of the rolls and the fact that it had chunks of real strawberry in it. I would definitely go back to Toast Delight to try other flavours. They have an Ube flavoured one that I have my heart set on. Also, anywhere that makes me feel as welcome and as special as they did, is a place I would support for life.
Well, hope you enjoyed my Toast Delight review and my OOTD post. Have you ever tried Thai rolled ice cream? What’s your favourite ice cream flavour? Let me know in the comments below or through my social media channels. Thanks so much for reading and until next time?
