Spring is finally here!!! Although it’s still pretty chilly in Toronto, pants-season is officially over and I am ecstatic. Spring is a season of renewal. New leaves start growing on bald trees again and flowers begin to bloom before our eyes. We also strip off layers of clothes to something lighter and more refreshing. Spring outfits in 2017 will consist of trench coats, structured dresses and off-the-shoulder outfits. The Spring 2017 runway shows consisted of a lot of bare shoulders. Off-the-shoulder tops, single shoulder cutouts and Flashdance shoulders graced us with Spring presence.
With that being said, there’s something really feminine about showing off your shoulders. It may be the illusion of clothing being taken off or the fact that everyone seems to be obsessed with collarbones at the moment. There’s actually a trend going around right now where people are taking selfies of how many coins they can hold in their collarbones! However, you will not be seeing a picture of me and my collarbone-coin-count here today..or ever. But you will be seeing my collarbones as I am doing a feature on my favourite off-the-shoulder blouse. 🙌🏼
The star of today’s blogpost is the Malik Blouse from Aritzia. It’s an off-the-shoulder blouse with 3/4 sleeves. The Malik Blouse is available in many colours including black, white, lilac, and blue stripes. What I love about this blouse is that it comes with an elastic detail on the shoulders so that the shirt stays off-the-shoulder. I purchased another off-the-shoulder shirt from somewhere else before and it was the worst because I had to keep pulling them down every 2 minutes. As a result, I am very appreciative of this feature. I also love the tie detailing on the sleeves giving it more of a feminine flair. The shirt is designed to be longer therefore can be worn tucked in or flowing out.
I have done 2 looks of an OOTD and OOTN so you can see the fit of the shirt. I styled the OOTD look with a pair of my favourite acid wash jean shorts. These are from Forever 21 and I wish that everybody made shorts in this cut, that’s how much I love the fit. I tucked the blouse in with the high waisted shorts as I didn’t think the lampshading look was fitting. In addition, I slipped on and buckled up my white Zara pumps. And to wrap up the whole look, I put my hair in a braid to the side to show off the shoulders right!
For the OOTN look, I styled the blouse with my favourite leather leggings. If you’ve read my latest fashion post, you know how much I love the juxtaposition of soft and edgy. These leggings called the Daria Pant, are one of my favourite all time purchases from Aritzia. These extremely comfortable tights are made from Japanese, vegan leather and they stay tight and doesn’t sag with wear. I also styled the outfit with my black Yves Saint Laurent pumps. I didn’t tuck in the blouse this time as I like my shirts to be longer with leggings. This outfit kind of reminded me of Grease so I played it up with a bold, red lip from Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Beso. I also switched my hair from day to night by taking the braids out into a messy side ponytail.
